The Write Way to Your Soul

SOMjnlA fantastic way to really open up to your intuition, to your team of guides, and to the essence of your soul is through writing.   People often talk about the importance of journaling….but I find that not very many people actually make a regular practice of it.

A long time ago, one of my teachers recommended Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way.   Its a workbook where you create habits to get into the flow of your creativity….its an amazing book that I highly recommend.  One of key points in the book is writing…….Julia refers to it as the Morning Pages.   She suggests as soon as you wake up in the morning, grab a journal and start writing…..write for 3 full pages.

You don’t have to write about anything…..just whatever flows through your mind.  If all you write is “I don’t know what to say” over and over….thats okay…..just as long as you write.  You can vent about something,  make a wish list for the day,  a list of everything you love….or don’t love……write about your dreams…..write about what you hope will happen that day… does not matter as long as you write.

When you write you open up a channel connected to your Higher Self…..and the place where your ideas, creativity, dreams, and desires live and wait for you to pull them through….a place deep within your soul.  This is also a place where your intuition offers information….as well as where your angels and guides will connect with you.  The more you write on a regular basis….the stronger you will connect with this place within you…..and the easier it will be for you to receive guidance from the higher realms.

You don’t have to write in the morning…..its amazing if you can as soon as you wake up because you are coming our of a dream state and its a great way to kick off your day.  But it can be really hard to do that if you share a bed with someone or have kids or animals to attend to first thing….or if you are always running late for work.  If you live alone…..try setting your alarm for a half hour earlier so you have time to write.

In my experience, as long as you can find the time to write for 3 pages in a journal at some point during the day its fine and will work.  Sometimes I get to it mid morning after I have taken care of a few things….but I’ve even done my journaling later in the day.

I’ve looked back at some of my journals and read about my hopes and dreams and am amazed at everything that came true and came through for me.  When you write down your thoughts and your dreams you ground them in reality…..its like you are materializing them on the earth plane…..seeds that are planted and the more you continue to write…..its like you are watering those seeds.

Amazing things will happen when you get in the habit of writing.  It does not have to be a poem, a story, or a masterpiece of any sort.  You don’t have to be a ‘writer.’   Again….you can write about nothing for 3 pages…..its just the energetic process of writing that will really opening you up…..clearing a channel for a river from your soul to flow out into the world.

Make it special and buy a nice journal…..or even just start out with a spiral notebook or a few pieces of paper.   At least try it out and allow yourself a few weeks to a month of doing it every day….in the morning or at some point during each day…..and see what magic you create.

How Sacred is Your Space?

aHaving a special place within the home where you can go and center yourself can really make a huge difference in a person’s life.   Whether it is an entire room or a tiny table top, creating a sacred space will not only help unlock one’s guidance and intuition….but also provide inner and outer peace.

I remember seeing the Tina Turner biopic, What’s Love Got to Do With It?  years ago…..a turning point in Tina’s life was when she created an alter in her home and began chanting.  She discovered inner peace and the strength to turn her life around for the better….boy did her life get better!  I was young when I saw the film and it really made a strong impression on me….I was so inspired and I really appreciated the sacred space she created for herself….as well as everything she accomplished in her life.

I have my own little sacred space that’s almost like a make-shift alter…..a collection of stuff I love….stuff I find powerful.  Actually I have two…one on top of a credenza in my office…and one on top of my dresser in my closet.

Included in my sacred space is a St. Michael statue my sister bought in Italy for me when I was little…. I also have various crystals and a bunch of crystal skulls I collect.  There are some necklaces I never wear but love and feel have great energy….along with some pendulums.    Sometimes I include pictures of heroes….sometimes prayer cards.  I include the collar from my beloved dog that passed away.  Other times have a lemon from my lemon tree as well as a orchid I’ve nurtured into a blooming beauty.  I even have a coffee mug I love….some fantastic candles….and some fragrant incense sticks.

There is no right way to create your scared space….it can be whatever you want it to be. You could even keep it in a box and pull the box out of the back of your closet whenever you want some sacred time.  A window sill would also make a nice alter.  Get creative with it and see what comes together.  Your ability to bring together stuff you love is scared in itself…..that love and creativity is magic that infuses into the items…making the space very powerful.

Once you have your space set up…..visit it whenever you feel inclined….first thing in the morning….just before bed…whenever is best for you.  This can be a place to meditate, to pray, to take deep breaths, to chant, or to just clear your mind and think about nothing.

Create your space….celebrate it…..and use it!  You may find you are happier….less stressed out….more connected to your guides, angels, your intuition…..and your light will shiner brighter than ever!

Where Do You Find Inspiration?

somlgWho or what inspires you?  Do you ever find yourself watching or listening to someone and you think….wow….thats amazing…..look at what they bring through to the world!

Every single person has a gift to share with the world…it does not have to be something advertised and announced to millions of people (though it could!).  It could be something subtle yet powerful that touches a select few.

Recognizing the gifts within others can bring forth the gifts within yourself….inspiring you to create, to be a greater version of yourself, and to express your true Self for your own benefit and the benefit of others.

I love appreciating artists of all kinds… inspires me to want to create and express myself… fills me with ideas and inspirations that fuel my work.  My love for the arts ignites my creativity and in turn deepens my connection to Spirit…..strengthens my intuition…..and effects all aspects of my life for the better.

When I witness an artist expressing their deepest creative Self….fearlessly sharing a part of themselves with the world….being who they truly are, tapping into Spirit and using their god-given talents… lights me up and gets me off my feet….like a domino making contact and leaning on me…sparking  energy within me and encouraging me to create and bring forth something to the world.

Inspiration can be a form of energy healing….transferring from one person to another.  Consider who or what inspires you… does not have to be art related….it could be a teacher, writer, thought leader, family member, an animal, a location, a building, a tree…..anything or anyone.

This can be an exercise to help shed light on how you are inspired and what that stirs up within you.  Focus on that inspiration….meditate on it……and bring it to your heart center so you can really soak it in and then circulate that energy throughout your body.

Appreciating who inspires you and giving thanks for that inspiration, whether it be personally thanking someone or merely giving thanks to the universe, this will ignite your own creativity, uplift your mood, and enhance your soul!

The Pink Bubble Technique

pinkbubbleWhen I was in high school, I was extremely stressed out about my college entrance exams and I discovered Shakti Gawain’s Creative Visualization audio tapes where I learned the Pink Bubble technique.  This technique changed my life and how I manage stress… totally calmed my nerves and I was successful in completing my exams and graduating.  Over the years I have used it regularly when needed and have modified it a bit over time.

Begin by getting comfortable….either lay down or sit back in a chair.  Close your eyes and take ten slow deep breaths in through your nose and exhaling out through your mouth.

Imagine whatever is stressing you out or causing you concern…..put all of your focus on it.  Don’t avoid it…think about it in every detail….your worst fear with it, whatever makes you mad or sad, give it your full attention for a few minutes.  This may be something you’ve tried to block out of your mind….now is the time to face it for a few minutes.

Now imagine a large pink beautiful bubble floating above your head and place all of these thoughts you’ve been focused on within the bubble.  If you have to make the bubble bigger so be it….every image, person, scenario, whatever it is that is bothering you….put it all within that bubble.

The next step is to imagine that pink bubble begin to float higher and higher away from you… is slowly rise….filled with all of your concerns…..see it rise into the clouds…up into the sky……getting smaller and smaller as it head’s toward outer space.

You are releasing this bubble from your consciousness… no longer need it and you are not attached to it.  Let it go…..the vast sky and outer space will know what to do with it…..there is no need for you to worry about it any longer.

When you no longer see the bubble, take a few slow deep breaths again and open your eyes.  You have released that which has weighed you down!

This exercise is always handy to use whenever something or someone is annoying you… can do it anywhere and it can relate to any topic or problem.  From my experience, once I have completed this exercise the problem I focused on and put within the bubble no longer gets under my skin…..I am really freed of its distractions.  That doesn’t mean you won’t still face the challenge….but this will help you manage it… keep it from getting the better of you….and it will empower you to overcome its hold on you.I have always loved this exercise and I use still use it whenever I need it.  I hope its helpful for you and provides you with some relief.  Give it a try and let me know how it works for you….I always appreciate feedback!!!!

Peace is A Few Breaths Away

breathOften people tell me they cannot relax, they do not feel they receive any guidance on their own, they are stressed because of the demands of life and cannot think clearly or make good decisions.  A simple solution that will help a person get a grip is simply through breathing.

Yes….I know everyone is always breathing, otherwise they would not be alive.  But most people maintain a shallow breathing pattern…..never breathing deeply.  When a person is not breathing deeply, there is a limited amount of oxygen circulating throughout the body and to the brain….leading to stress and a lack of clarity.

Try taking a deep breath in through the nose counting to 4, holding the breath in for 2, and then exhaling through the mouth counting again to 4.  Repeat this 10 times and see what happens… might be surprised that you are suddenly relaxed and feeling more grounded.

This is a great exercise to try when you are looking for guidance, answers, and/or are trying to make a decision, and it will really help you open up to your intuition.   After repeating a controlled breathing pattern you allow yourself to relax and open up to receiving information that is for your highest good in that moment.

I know when my mind is racing with too many thoughts, I can follow this breathing exercise and will rid myself of the unnecessary chatter…..and then amazing ideas come to me that I never would have been able to process because my mind was in overdrive.

The power of breath is something that can be taken for granted…..but if you turn your attention to it… may experience its power in releasing the stuff that has weighed you down….freeing yourself and allowing you to be at peace again.
